WIN WIN shares the new album Primaries this week via Brooklyn Vegan, who describes its “textured, organic sound” as “weirder, trippier, and more interesting” than the band’s dance pop beginnings. Primaries is due for release on June 30th via Arts & Crafts, featuring the singles “Been So Long” and “Couch Paranoia” as well as the dazzling 3D visual work of WIN WIN.
To celebrate the release of Primaries, WIN WIN announces a hometown album launch show on the day of its release, June 30 at Rough Trade, featuring guests Cookies and dd elle. You can purchase tickets and find additional event information here.
Primaries is WIN WIN’s highly anticipated third record, following Double Vision (2012) and WIN WIN (2011). Written by WIN WIN with Jahphet Landis of TV On The Radio and vocalist Courtney Epton, “Been So Long” finds the close-knit production unit of Alex Epton (XXX¢hange), Chris Devlin, and Ryan Sciaino (Ghostdad) at its catchiest, flashing pop prowess through a kaleidoscopic lens. Primaries will be available on limited edition grey-and-black marbled vinyl and digital download on June 30 via Arts & Crafts and is available for pre-order now via GalleryAC and iTunes. Advance purchases of the album come with instant-grat downloads of singles “Been So Long” and “Couch Paranaoia”, as well as non-vinyl b-sides “Waster” and “Air”.
A band that at every step further defies classification, WIN WIN conjures its most transportive music and visual work to date with Primaries: an elastic and hyper-modern album of seductive pop permanence and psychoactive electronics. Moving away from sampling as instrument and inspiration, Primaries places WIN WIN firmly in the realm of the analog and psychedelic: anthropomorphic and cybernetic: a blueprint for a sound that’s simultaneously classic and futuristic. It is this rival allure, of organic patterns to digital systems, that defines the reverse-bionic beauty of Primaries.
With Primaries, the WIN WIN three have honed their most imaginative statement yet: an absolute monster of an artwork with the zeitgeist of 2015 as its muse. The possibilities are endless when matching human and circumstance to machine. This is the new chromatic sheen: a crude and un-editable vessel, for the pulse of impulse, and transitive improvisation forever. WIN WIN is known widely for sharing founding members with seminal B’more party-rap group Spank Rock, for its live, visual, and recording production work for Porter Robinson, The Kills, Hot Chip, Prince Rama, and official remix credits for Thom Yorke, Björk, and many more.
The band is one, but the ingredients are three – Organic / Synthetic / Other – primaries in a language unique to itself.
