International singing sensation, Jay Scott Berry arrived home to Australia this week after a six month tour across Europe, the US and Asia to find himself #1 on three major US charts. According to the August 19 issue of New Music Weekly, an industry trade publication, Berry’s hit single, “Please Come to Boston,” is # 1 on their AC Indie Chart and # 1 on the Western Region Chart as well. On the Independent Music Network’s Mainstream Chart, Berry is at the number # 1 spot for the sixth time this year. With an impressive 17 weeks in the NMW Top 40 alongside some of the hottest names in the music industry, Berry is holding the #7 spot on the highly competitive Hot 100 charts, ahead of Steven Tyler and Katy Perry.
Emerging from relative obscurity just a few months ago, Berry has quickly captured the attention of DJ’s and critics alike with his heartfelt, acoustic style. Ralph Benner, former Publisher of the Laufer Publishing Company, interviewed Berry and wrote: “If you haven’t heard Keepsake, Jay Scott Berry’s new CD, then get ready for a treat. He’s an artist unique in the qualities missing in today’s musical world.” This sentiment is being echoed far and wide as Berry rapidly emerges as one of the top new recording artists of the year.
To date, Berry’s debut single has accumulated over 22,000 spins on US radio alone. “His song, ‘Please Come to Boston’ has proven extremely popular at radio,” stated Gary Hendrix, head of the Independent Music Network. “Berry has been on our charts for over 26 weeks and is definitely one of the success stories of 2011. We are proud to debut his new single, ‘Solitary Man,’ on our syndicated radio show this month, where it has already broken into our Top 30.”
Not one to rest on his laurels, Berry was on stage within 24 hours of landing in Australia, headlining a charity concert for the homeless. The overwhelming response to this concert was similar to the reception he has received around the world this year. In fact, one of the many rave reviews comes directly from event organizer, Lou Marambio, who exclaims: “Wow, an absolutely awesome show!”
Like many “overnight” success stories, this one is many years in the making. Growing up in Reno, Berry was on stage by the age of three. At eight, he was in a boys’ choir and by 15 had sung in numerous musicals. His distinct style is the end result of many years of international experience. A natural showman, he sings from the heart, with joy and sincere passion. Charlie Chalmers, who co-produced the album, states: “One of the most difficult things to achieve in the music business is to find and establish a unique, commercial sound. With Keepsake, Jay Scott Berry has done this.”
