Elvis Presley – Prince From Another Planet
By 1972, Elvis Presley had exorcised himself from one of his worst creative periods. While much of the 1960s represented a vast wasteland of forgettable films and soundtracks, his 1968 NBC special – and his subsequent 1969 “Memphis Sessions” had restored the luster to the “King’s” shine. Never a prolific touring artist, Presley took to the road as never before, with documentaries like “Elvis On Tour” and “That’s The Way It Is” featuring the singer at full…

K-Flay- Spreading The Music!
How does one define the music of style of K-Flay? The artist herself says those words are hard to come by. “Sometimes, I don’t really know how to describe it,” she tells MNN. “It definitely has a hip hop / rap foundation to it, with a little bit of indie rock and electronic music. It’s still evolving. On the last EP, we started to hone in on the sound I wanted, but it’s still a work in progress,” she says. K-Flay, who is currently on the southern swing of her tour, will be hitting Atlanta’s Drunken Unicorn on Monday. She says she’s excited to come back …

Johnny Cash – Live Around The World (Bootleg, Volume 3)
Since his passing in 2002, there have been many collections of music released from the vast catalog of “The Man In Black.” One of the best in this series has been the “Bootleg” series from Sony. You get to hear a different side of some of Cash’s defining moments, and this package is no different. This set starts with a live show on the “Big D Jamboree” in Dallas in 1956, and includes one of his signature songs, “I Walk The Line.” It then segues into performances from 1962 and 1964 – on the latter, Cash…

Ray Charles – Live In France, 1961
Ray Charles was, without a doubt, one of American music’s greatest all-time treasures. This new DVD collection, filmed at the Antibes Jazz Festival in July 1961, is living proof of just how special his natural gift was. Ironically, these performances were thought to be lost for almost a half-century. The original films have been transferred and digitally restored and remastered, and they look and sound absolutely pristine. And, then there’s what truly matters the most – the music. That has been the thing that has endured…

38 Special – Live From Texas
As the inner sleeve of this disc reflects, this album was recorded throughout the state of Texas in September 2009. That means that you’re going to get a very loud crowd, as Texans love their music – whether your name is Wills or Van Zant. Speaking of which! There are no heavy handed musical sermons, as the legendary rockers are in no way shape or form trying to influence one’s political persuasion. It’s simply put, Rock and Roll, and that’s one thing 38 Special does just about as good as anyone. Seriously, this is…

Taylor Swift – Speak Now World Tour Live
Just a few weeks ago, Taylor Swift reclaimed the Entertainer of the Year trophy at the CMA Awards. The award was won by the singer thanks to the elaborate stage show and production that she featured this year. Just in time for the holidays, Big Machine releases a CD / DVD set that proves what a phenomenon the singer has become, and that there is no end in sight. Swift knows her audience, and caters to them in a large way on this collection. Kicking off with the title cut, which may be the best tempo song she has…

Jeff Allen – Self Titled
The energetic stage show of Jeff Allen has made him one of Nashville’s most talked about new artists as of late. Having had a chance to see him in concert before I heard the record, I wondered would I come away disappointed? After all, communicating the energy of a live show to a recorded disc can be a little bit tough. Ace Nashville musicians Odie Blackmon and Kenny Greenburg, who serve as producers of this disc, succeed wholeheartedly in keeping Allen’s talent front and center. That, along with the…
