After releasing two fine singles this year – the country-rocker “Countrified” and the take-no-prisoners “Hell Hath No Fury” – Leslie Cours Mather is lightening things up a little this holiday season with her original Christmas song “Santa Baby (You’ll Be Mine).” It’s a fun and flirtatious mid-tempo ditty that takes a look at Santa’s better half – or rather, at her conspicuous absence. After all, everybody knows Santa is real, but when it comes to the missus, who’s ever actually seen this woman anyway?
Mather makes it clear in this tune that, if there really isn’t a Mrs. Santa Claus, she wants the gig. When she sings I’ll just walk up to Mr. Santa Claus/Say, Big Boy, going my way?/With a ho ho ho and a jingle jingle jing/I’m about to make your sleigh bells ring, she delivers some of the wittiest and most entertaining original Christmas lyrics anyone’s come up with in a while. This classically-trained singer gone country gives this single a smooth, sultry and pitch-perfect treatment that’s half Shania Twain, half Jessica Rabbit, and like everything Mather does, it’s top-notch.
So if you’re looking for some special music for Christmas morning – or maybe even better, for a relaxing Christmas Eve night – “Santa Baby (You’ll Be Mine)” is what needs to be coming through your speakers for the holidays.
