Cassadee Pope – Frame By Frame

by Chuck Dauphin

cassadee-pope-frameAmerica fell in love with Cassadee Pope last year after her exposure on the popular series “The Voice.” One listen to her, and you could not deny her immense talent and charisma. That same reaction could also be applied to her debut Country disc for Republic.

Pope made her initial splash at radio with the powerful vocal showcase “Wasting All Your Tears.” The song has proved to be a perfect fit on the airwaves, and gives the songstress a chance to show exactly what she’s got vocally. Dann Huff’s production also is sharp and fresh while allowing Pope’s vocals to shine in the spotlight.

But, Pope is not just a one-trick pony. “Good Times” is an aptly titled piece of feel good Pop, as is the sing-a-long bounce of “Everybody Sings,” which proves that, to quote Lambert – it does take all kinds of kinds. Among the more tempo-driven cuts, “This Car” probably has the most hit potential – inside the format or outside of it. Sometimes, it’s not about solving the world’s problems or nuclear physics as much as it is sounding good – and the track is a sonic delight!

Overall, it’s the ballads that Pope seems to show her talent the most effectively on. Whether it be the organic-sounding “11” or the pure vocal power of “One Song Away” or “i Wish I Could Break Your Heart,” Pope serves notice on the world that she’s not just a reality TV star – but a very talented vocalist we are going to be hearing from for quite some time!
