Carolina Road – Back To My Roots

by Chuck Dauphin

Lorraine Jordan and her group, Carolina Road are in the mood for looking back on their new album. There’s a definite sense of yearning that comes to the forefront on cuts like the title cut or the wistful “A Light In The Window, Again,” that seems to conjure up memories of a bygone day. But, it doesn’t end there.

A listen deeper into the album finds Carolina Road reminiscing once more with tracks like “The Hills Of Home” and the nostalgic “Granny’s Garden,” which is kind of similar to some of the best work of the Judds.

They also tackle a few songs that will no doubt bring a memory or two back to the listener. Reno & Smiley’s “I Know You’re Married, But I Love You Still” gets a faithful remake, as does the Country classic “What It Means To Be Lonesome.”

All along the time machine, there is some fine picking to be heard – whether it’s the mandolin of Jordan, or the exceptional banjo work of Ben Green, Josh Goforth’s fiddle, Tommy Long’s guitar, and the bass of Eddie Biggerstaff. This disc will not only take you back lyrically, but also make you realize just how good the future state of Carolina Road really is!
