Amy Atchley’s voice already may be familiar to the public from her work on many prominent national campaigns, but her presence is about to become more pronounced with the April 1 release of her new CD, Where You Go, on Cherrywood Records. On her fourth solo project, the Austin singer-songwriter delivers impeccably crafted originals that fully capture her pop smarts, vocal prowess and accomplished musicianship.
Atchley’s well-developed sense of melody, nuanced singing and excellent piano- and guitar-playing shine on Where You Go. Tracks such as the gentle “Way Out,” the bright, mid-tempo “Sway” and the power-ballad “Someday” capture her ethereal vocals and the dreamy vibe that permeates her work. Drum and piano tracks actually were recorded right in her living room, where she played an elegant 1927 Steinway baby grand.
A Houston native, Atchley performed in two renowned Austin bands, Fabu and Hush, while earning her degree in vocal performance at the University of Texas. After college, she spent four years in New York City, developing her solo career while showcasing with artists including Ani DiFranco and Ron Sexsmith. She also worked on campaigns for Disney, eBay and the New York Lottery, among others, and helped institute music programs in more than 100 low-income schools nationally while working for VH1’s Save the Music Foundation.
Atchley is ready to go wherever Where You Go takes her, in Austin and beyond.
