Best known for his 1967 protest hit Alice’s Restaurant, singer / songwriter and activist Arlo Guthrie is out on tour, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of his father, Woody Guthrie. Arlo is performing many songs from his father’s catalog, including some of his father’s old poems to which he has put music. Woody Guthrie, famous for This Land Is Your Land, as well as numerous other activist and protest songs, passed away in 1967, leaving behind both finished and unfinished songs, many of which are in poem form only.
Over the last few years, the Guthrie family has been releasing some of those poems to musicians and songwriters in a collaboration to bring more of Woody’s creative work to fruition. Arlo, clearly inheriting his father’s story-telling and masterful songwriting abilities, is celebrating Woody’s heritage with a one-man solo acoustic show with which he is packing venues across the country.
