Liz Talley - More Than Satisfied

by Chuck Dauphin

In talking with newcomer Liz Talley, one thing is very much apparent.  She loves Country Music, and has no problem expressing that.  She has gotten the seal of approval from the legendary Leona Williams, who penned the lead-off single from her debut album a couple of years back, and to be honest with you…that’s saying something!

She takes the same no-frills approach to recording Country Music that Williams has taken with her music for so long.  On some cuts here, such as “What We Don’t Have,” she sounds like a modern day Jean Shepard or Jeanne Pruett.  She’s joined on the cut by veteran performer Tony Booth, who does a fantastic job.  Plus…any song that is written by Billy Yates is well worth listening to!

Other cuts on the album that work well include “Bump Bounce Boogie,” where she sounds like she could have been a female member of the Original Texas Playboys, and the waltz-ish feel of “A Song I Can Cry To” and “I’m Not That Good At Goodbye,” both of which could very well have been hits for Connie Smith circa 1971 or so.  The album caps off with the intriguing “The Way It Was,” which is the best definition for the music that Talley does.  The bottom line is this—If you love the traditional side of the Country, you’re going to love Liz Talley---and that’s a fact!
