Joe Pagetta - Other People's News

by Chuck Dauphin

Around Music City for a number of years, the name of Joe Pagetta has drawn considerable praise for his unique vocal talent, as well as his songwriting prowess. The singer has returned with a new EP that sounds like his most personal and introspective yet. Listeners that have followed the New Jersey native will really like what they hear on this disc. The churning guitars of the opener, “Both Be Wrong,” conjure up memories of the Beatles, with lyrics that likewise seem to be in that vein. I really like the imagery in “Church or Train Station,” a track that raises questions about the meaning of life.

Those thoughts come to the forefront again in “Back To The Sea,” an inspirational track about fishermen going back to work after a tsunami. Another highlight is the title cut, which is about nothing more than two friends catching up. That being said, it’s just as deep emotionally as anything you might have heard in a while. The disc wraps with the interesting “Practice Makes Perfect.” It’s pretty rare to have Les Paul, Elvis Presley, and Jesus Christ as subjects of a song……but then again Pagetta isn’t your run of the mill artist…..If you like music a little left of center….this is for you!!!
