Michelle Nixon - What More Should I Say?

by Gracie Muldoon

Writing a review of Michelle Nixon's new CD What More Should I Say? is easy enough...I could just say "It's GREAT!" and leave it there.  What more can I say?  Its something everyone who appreciates good b'grass should pickup and give a listen to.  It's Michelle showing her love for good country music, her way - bluegrass style!

Demonstrating that you can take a tried and true good country song and make it 'grassy is definitely proven on her latest project of 13 great tunes.  Bill Anderson's Slippin' Away (Jean Shepard's hit) is done the "Nixon" way.  Bill even joins her on the last track of We Must Have Been Out Of Our Mind.  Way cool!  Who doesn't love and remember 'Whisperin' Bill"!!!

The following are tracks from her cd:
I know Rain,(Tom T & Dixie's superb songwriting)
What More Should I Say? (Written by her guitarist, Patrick Robertson, is fantastic!)
If It Ain't Love (Let's Leave It Alone)
Blue Kentucky Girl (a favorite song of mine since Emmylou),
Prisoner Of Our Love
Tree of Hearts
Roses in the Snow
Leavin'gs Heavy on My Mind
Ramblin' Fever

Heart of Stone (grab your "puffs" sniff sniff!)
Slippin' Away
We Must've Have Been Out Of Our Minds
(Duet with Bill Anderson)

Michelle's voice is pleasant and her genuine personality carries over into her voice and music.  Michelle's band exudes high levels of octane, therefore their name of DRIVE clearly describes what they do, musically.  Drive y'all the way to Tennessee and back on one tank of fuel!  Patrick Robertson, good n'solid guitar; Jason David, beatin' the bush banjo; Jamie Harper, marvelous mandolin man; Adam Seale's big booming bass; shows that they can take you anywhere with their DRIVE.

Gracie's Rating:

4 3/4 guitars out of 5
