Amanda
Wilson - Small Town Girl
By Rebecca Hosking
Amanda Wilson may be a young artist but sounds like an old pro.
She has been singing as long as she could talk and the
experience is vivid in her talents. Amanda has the ability
to sound familiar, with a hint of influences like Dolly Parton.
At the same time, she gives off a persona all her own.
This album is a nice collection of obviously well selected songs
written by writers who had this artist in mind. If that’s
an incorrect assumption then she executes each song with such
emotion you’d think she wrote them all hrself. She did
co-write the song IF IT WERE ONLY THAT EASY, and I thought it
was an incredible display of well-versed writing skills.
There was a nice selection of upbeat to moderate tempo songs
that keeps your foot tapping from beginning to end. The CD
was well produced with professional musicians making each song
come alive with stand out individualism. This is what
grabs you and takes you down this melodic country path.
The track, HURTS DON’T IT, was a ballad that lacked the
emotional punch you look for in a slow song. However for
the most part the entire CD was clearly well thought out and
performed with perfection. She has an angelic voice that
is light years ahead of her time.
This is a commercial friendly CD that holds its own against what
is on the radio today. I was very impressed with her
ability to sing with strong emotion as if the song itself was
connected to her at the hip. Amanda Wilson is consistently
strong throughout the entire CD. I rate this 3 ¾ guitars
mainly to give her room to grow. I see big things for this
artist in the future.
