August 13 was a tough day for Indiana this year. That’s the day when a freakish, 77 MPH windstorm blew a collapsed band stage into a crowd of Sugarland fans at the State Fair, with unspeakable results. One of the artists scheduled to perform on that stage last summer was the country rock duo, Allan & Ashcraft. Since then, these Indiana hometown boys have taken a collective deep breath, focusing their energies on a new self-titled, five song EP release.
Produced by Allan Craig Miller and Hubie Ashcraft, along with Grammy winner and world-class guitarist Kenny Greenberg, this record offers a little bit of their own writing, as well as that of Nashville A-listers. First single “Cornfields,” written by hitmakers Rodney Clawson(“Amarillo Sky”), Billy Montana(“Suds In The Bucket”) and Chris Tompkins(“Before He Cheats”), paints a broad mid-western landscape on a Keith Urban, highway-rocking-melody canvas that the singers live every day of their lives. They’re hoping listeners will relate to it as much as they do.
A & A plan to release their cover of the Buckcherry tune, “Sorry,” to radio sometime in 2012. It’s a guitar-driving song of regret, with a lonesome vibe that shows a sensitive side to this group. Final track “Let’s Get Gone” is a Chesney-laid-back- spring-break kind of anthem that is an ear-grabbing sound for this budding duo.
